- Start a chart – First thing first – you have to know exactly how much you weigh at any time. And I am talking the real number, not the one that is on your drivers license. So, lock the door, take the scale out, weigh yourself with empty bladder and record the number. Do this every morning. It is very important to know your weight and how much it fluctuates. On top of the table record the weight you want to achieve or maintain with 3-5 pounds fluctuations. For example: My ideal weight for my height is 114 pounds and I like to keep it from 112 to 118 pounds. For loosing weight, adjust your calorie intake, exercise and overall lifestyle, so you are loosing weight slowly. Loosing weight really fast is more difficult to maintain later, and studies show that people are gaining it back at the same fast rate. Once you achieve your ideal weight, continue to monitor it. For example, if in the morning the scale registers that I am 118 pounds or more, I will cut my carbohydrates intake or exercise longer for several days (it takes me usually couple) until I am back on track. This is one simple way to be in charge and easily adjust your diet and exercise program accordingly. After all it is easier to get rid of 2 pounds than 20.
- Calorie restriction – If you search internet you will find out millions (if not more) of diets, magic pills and tricks to loose weight and eat all you want. Well, we all want that, but if we are not genetically predetermined, it never going to work. I know we all want a miracle, but there is one thing, and one thing only – eat less. Not only you will start loosing weight, but researchers confirmed that calorie restricted diet increases ones lifespan. I know, it sounds easier than done, but actually there are some tricks to eat less.

- Eat off smaller plates – numerous studies found that when using smaller plates and glasses, we unwittingly consume less and still feel satisfied. The best plate size, according to the research is between 91/4 and 10 inches. If you go smaller than that, you are tempted to go back for refills.
- Audit your pantry and fridge – That is for a very obvious reason – if it is easy to get, when the temptation strike we will eat it. What is the solution? – get rid of it. Go trough the contents of your fridge and pantry and take out all the junk food and replace it with healthy, diet-friendly food. For a healthy snack for example – replace the chips with almonds. Always have some baby carrots in the fridge readily available for nibbling.
- Dig out grandma’s cookbook – if you like cooking,forget about the fancy recipes that are flooding nowadays internet. Take out the old cookbook that your grandma used and give it a try.
